The average import price for ethylene polymers; waste, parings and scraps stood at $353 per ton in November 2023, declining by -13.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 51% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $467 per ton. From February 2023 to November 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($390 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($299 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for ethylene polymers; waste, parings and scraps amounted to $458 per ton, surging by 58% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for ethylene polymers; waste, parings and scraps increased by +61.4% against 2017 indices. The export price peaked at $492 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($464 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand totaled $189 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

For the third year in a row, Hong Kong SAR recorded decline in supplies from abroad of ethylene polymers; waste, parings and scraps, which decreased by -50.7% to 13K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a dramatic setback.
In value terms, imports of ethylene polymers; waste, parings and scraps fell remarkably to $4.2M in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a sharp setback.
