Price for Ethylene Polymers; Waste, Parings and Scrap in Japan (FOB) - 2023
In November 2023, the average export price for ethylene polymers; waste, parings and scraps amounted to $341 per ton, standing approximately at the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 4.4% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $415 per ton. From February 2023 to November 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($519 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($247 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average import price for ethylene polymers; waste, parings and scraps stood at $786 per ton in 2022, declining by -5.4% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for ethylene polymers; waste, parings and scraps increased by +60.2% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 69% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $832 per ton, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($1,102 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($454 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+15.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
