The average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; of alloy steel (excluding stainless)s stood at $485 per ton in January 2024, increasing by 5.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2023 when the average export price increased by 7.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $531 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to January 2024, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In January 2024, the highest price was recorded for prices to Indonesia ($523 per ton) and India ($486 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($407 per ton) and Pakistan ($451 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From February 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The import price peaked at $3,700 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
