In December 2023, the average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels amounted to $1,566 per ton, picking up by 3.8% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 an increase of 13% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,997 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to December 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,836 per ton), while the average price for exports to India totaled $1,402 per ton.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
