Price for Ferrous Waste and Scrap; of Stainless Steel in Germany (FOB) - 2023

The average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels stood at $1,591 per ton in December 2023, which is down by -3.7% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 8.6% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,906 per ton. From April 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($1,444 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($334 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels stood at $1,562 per ton in December 2023, remaining stable against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 an increase of 11% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,806 per ton. From May 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($2,128 per ton), while the price for Canada ($591 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels, when their volume decreased by -7.8% to 1.1M tons. In general, exports saw a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 1.8% against the previous year.
