In December 2023, the average import price for fibres; synthetic filament tow, acrylic or modacrylics amounted to $3,870 per ton, flattening at the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 36% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $4,685 per ton in August 2023; however, from September 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($5,556 per ton), while the price for Portugal ($2,665 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for fibres; synthetic filament tow, acrylic or modacrylics stood at $4,336 per ton in 2022, dropping by -5.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 190% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $7,845 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($6,322 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mozambique ($2,211 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tanzania (+9.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
