In 2022, the average import price for fibres; synthetic filament tow, of polyesterses amounted to $5,348 per ton, which is down by -21.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 72%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $6,774 per ton in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($7,746 per ton), while the price for China ($464 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
