The average import price for fibres; waste (including noils, yarn waste and garnetted stock), of synthetic fibreses stood at $779 per ton in May 2024, shrinking by -2.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a mild decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2023 when the average import price increased by 53% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,098 per ton. From January 2024 to May 2024, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2024, the country with the highest price was Spain ($1,558 per ton), while the price for Tunisia ($154 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for fibres; waste (including noils, yarn waste and garnetted stock), of synthetic fibreses stood at $795 per ton in May 2024, with an increase of 4.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2024 an increase of 10% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,044 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to May 2024, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In May 2024, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($2,867 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($589 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Morocco (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
