The average import price for fish; edible offal, fish heads, tails and mawses stood at $37,864 per ton in December 2023, with an increase of 8.6% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2022 to December 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2023 when the average import price increased by 39% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $43,490 per ton. From October 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($205K per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($25,353 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Suriname (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price recorded a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 when the average export price increased by 103% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $13,848 per ton. From September 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($7,785 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($2,658 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
