In June 2023, the average fish fat and oil import price amounted to $5,051 per ton, picking up by 12% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 21% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in June 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Peru ($6,905 per ton), while the price for Norway ($3,665 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average fish fat and oil export price stood at $3,735 per ton in June 2023, waning by -21.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 39% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $9,185 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($9,355 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States amounted to $3,185 per ton.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Fish Fat and Oil in Canada
In 2022, approx. 43K tons of fish fats and oils were imported into Canada; waning by -20.9% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable setback.
