The average fish; live, ornamental, freshwater export price stood at $30,817 per ton in July 2023, surging by 7.9% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 an increase of 17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $32,044 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($79,448 per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($6,173 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average fish; live, ornamental, freshwater import price stood at $50,071 per ton in 2022, waning by -18% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 756% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $254,302 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($128,913 per ton), while the price for China ($13,719 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exports of Fish; Live, Ornamental, Freshwater in Thailand
In 2022, the amount of fish; live, ornamental, freshwater exported from Thailand shrank to 665 tons, falling by -11.7% against 2021 figures. In general, exports recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 16%.
In value terms, fish; live, ornamental, freshwater exports declined to $18M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 9.6% against the previous year.

Imports of Fish; Live, Ornamental, Freshwater in Thailand
In 2022, the amount of fish; live, ornamental, freshwater imported into Thailand rose slightly to 37 tons, growing by 2% against 2021 figures. Overall, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +67.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 65%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, fish; live, ornamental, freshwater imports dropped markedly to $1.9M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a dramatic curtailment. The smallest decline of -0.1% was in 2021.
