Price for Fish Meal; Fit for Human Consumption in Malaysia (CIF) - 2022

The average import price for fish meal; fit for human consumptia stood at $3,517 per ton in December 2021, with an increase of 45% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $5,525 per ton in June 2021; however, from July 2021 to December 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Japan ($11,351 per ton), while the price for Thailand totaled $3,257 per ton.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+1.2%).

The average export price for fish meal; fit for human consumptia stood at $1,641 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 285% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $4,387 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($3,324 per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($1,073 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, overseas purchases of fish meal; fit for human consumptia decreased by -17% to 252 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 89% against the previous year.
