The average export price for flax; hackled or otherwise processed, but not spuns stood at $6,796 per ton in November 2023, remaining constant against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 an increase of 36% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $7,084 per ton in September 2023; however, from October 2023 to November 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($12,996 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($2,535 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for flax; hackled or otherwise processed, but not spuns stood at $2,606 per ton in 2022, picking up by 12% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 28%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,843 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($5,936 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($850 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+55.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Flax; Hackled or Otherwise Processed, But Not Spun in Lithuania
In 2022, approx. 5.2K tons of flax; hackled or otherwise processed, but not spuns were exported from Lithuania; increasing by 4.8% compared with 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, exports of flax; hackled or otherwise processed, but not spuns soared to $23M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +55.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 33%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
