The average import price for fresh or chilled bone-in cuts (excluding carcasses and half-carcasses) of bovine meat stood at $29,152 per ton in December 2023, growing by 6.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2023 an increase of 23% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $30,121 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($29,970 per ton), while the price for New Zealand ($14,951 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
