In August 2023, the average import price for fresh or chilled lamb carcasses and half-carcasseses amounted to $8,079 per ton, which is down by -5.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 18% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $9,147 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from the Netherlands ($9,217 per ton) and the UK ($9,088 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($7,753 per ton) and France ($7,886 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for fresh or chilled lamb carcasses and half-carcasseses stood at $9,784 per ton in August 2023, waning by -3% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 14% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $10,631 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were the Netherlands ($11,314 per ton) and Belgium ($10,452 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($8,691 per ton) and Austria ($9,287 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+9.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
