Price for Fresh or Chilled Sheep (Excluding Lamb) Carcasses and Half-Carcasses in Australia (FOB) - 2023

In December 2023, the average export price for fresh or chilled sheep (excluding lamb) carcasses and half-carcasseses amounted to $5,333 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous month. In general, the export price, however, posted a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 163% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $8,641 per ton. From February 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Jordan ($19,172 per ton), while the average price for exports to Papua New Guinea ($3,413 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Jordan (+17.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, exports of fresh or chilled sheep (excluding lamb) carcasses and half-carcasseses reduced rapidly to $2.2M in 2022. Overall, exports saw a sharp slump. The smallest decline of -27.7% was in 2021.
