Price for Frozen Crab and Crab Meat in China (FOB) - 2023
The average export price for frozen crabs and crabs meat stood at $6,826 per ton in June 2023, waning by -2.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed modest growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 an increase of 62% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $13,901 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($16,270 per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($3,416 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for frozen crabs and crabs meat stood at $7,095 per ton in June 2023, reducing by -31.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 an increase of 36% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $17,417 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Chile ($24,000 per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($1,864 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Frozen Crab and Crab Meat in China
In 2022, approx. 25K tons of frozen crabs and crabs meat were exported from China; with a decrease of -16.5% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports faced a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 7% against the previous year.
In value terms, frozen crab and crab meat exports plummeted to $195M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
