Price for Fruit, Edible; Durians, Fresh in Australia (CIF) - 2023

The average fruit, edible; durians, fresh import price stood at $17,148 per ton in July 2023, which is down by -10.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 70% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $22,344 per ton. From December 2022 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($32,931 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($12,833 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average fruit, edible; durians, fresh export price amounted to $10,908 per ton, picking up by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $11,560 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Christmas Island ($43,054 per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($2,936 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+17.5%).

Imports of Fruit, Edible; Durians, Fresh in Australia

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of fruit, edible; durians, freshes decreased by -44.9% to 185 tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 222% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 336 tons, and then declined notably in the following year.

In value terms, fruit, edible; durians, fresh imports dropped remarkably to $2.3M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 111% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $3.8M, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
