Price for Fruit, Edible; Durians, Fresh in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
The average fruit, edible; durians, fresh export price stood at $1,459 per ton in December 2021, approximately equating the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2021 when the average export price increased by 33% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,908 per ton in December 2020; however, from January 2021 to December 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($6,621 per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($694 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (-0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average fruit, edible; durians, fresh import price stood at $695 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 1.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 37%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,359 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($1,191 per ton), while the price for Thailand totaled $659 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+2.2%).
Exports of Fruit, Edible; Durians, Fresh in Malaysia
In 2022, approx. 19K tons of fruit, edible; durians, freshes were exported from Malaysia; dropping by -19% on the previous year. Over the period under review, total exports indicated slight growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +42.9% against 2020 indices. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +33.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 67% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $29M, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
