The average import price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses stood at $5,025 per ton in 2022, falling by -2.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 8.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $6,074 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($8,603 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($1,910 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 25% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $15,123 per ton. From June 2023 to November 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($38,836 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($6,289 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+15.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
