In November 2023, the average import price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses amounted to $4,774 per ton, which is down by -32.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a tangible expansion from November 2022 to November 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on November 2023 figures, import price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses decreased by -32.8% against October 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 69% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $7,100 per ton in October 2023, and then declined dramatically in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Estonia ($13,820 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($914 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+11.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses amounted to $3,504 per ton, which is down by -8.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 16%. The export price peaked at $5,064 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($5,307 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($2,712 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses decreased by -11.2% to 2K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 23%.
In value terms, imports of ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses contracted to $6.8M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +42.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 41%.
