The average export price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses stood at $1,733 per ton in November 2023, declining by -45.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 62% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $3,666 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to November 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Italy ($7,327 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($671 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+13.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In November 2023, the average import price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses amounted to $2,801 per ton, with a decrease of -14.1% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a tangible expansion from November 2022 to November 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.4% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on November 2023 figures, import price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses decreased by -14.9% against September 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 39% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $3,292 per ton in September 2023; however, from October 2023 to November 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($5,313 per ton), while the price for Germany ($1,727 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas shipments of ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses decreased by -16% to 85K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend.
