In 2022, the average import price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses amounted to $2,100 per ton, picking up by 39% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted a noticeable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 48% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $3,667 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Iran ($26,992 per ton), while the price for China ($1,126 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,215 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
