Price for Glass Bottle, Jar and Container in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021
The average import price for bottles, jars and other containers of glass stood at $147 per thousand units in December 2021, declining by -16.6% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2021 when the average import price increased by 28% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $226 per thousand units in February 2021; however, from March 2021 to December 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($524 per thousand units), while the price for Thailand ($108 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Price for Glass Bottle, Jar and Container in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
The average export price for bottles, jars and other containers of glass stood at $110 per thousand units in December 2021, rising by 40% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild curtailment. The export price peaked at $132 per thousand units in March 2021; however, from April 2021 to December 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($1.1 per unit), while the average price for exports to Myanmar ($60.0 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+25.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Glass Bottle, Jar and Container in Malaysia
In 2022, approx. 45M units of bottles, jars and other containers of glass were imported into Malaysia; falling by -10.7% on the year before. Overall, imports faced a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. Imports peaked at 62M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, glass bottle, jar and container imports reduced to $46M in 2022. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $53M, and then shrank in the following year.

For the third consecutive year, Malaysia recorded decline in shipments abroad of bottles, jars and other containers of glass, which decreased by -0.4% to 27M units in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt decline. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 38M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, glass bottle, jar and container exports dropped modestly to $19M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 9.1%. The exports peaked at $21M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
