In 2022, the average import price for glass fibres (including glass wool) and articles thereof (eg yarn, woven fabrics) amounted to $3,836 per ton, surging by 68% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decrease. The import price peaked at $5,406 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($8,276 per ton), while the price for China ($2,192 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 188% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $23,705 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($42,067 per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($1,473 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chile (+33.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, imports of glass fibres (including glass wool) and articles thereof (eg yarn, woven fabrics) skyrocketed to $16M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a prominent increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
