In August 2023, the average import price for granules and powders, of pig iron, spiegeleisen, iron or steels amounted to $2,132 per ton, jumping by 71% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a strong expansion from February 2023 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +9.1% over the last six-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, import price for granules and powders, of pig iron, spiegeleisen, iron or steels increased by +68.5% against May 2023 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Sweden ($3,563 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($1,177 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2023 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($2,100 per ton) and Turkey ($1,951 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($1,479 per ton) and North Macedonia ($1,503 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
