In 2022, the average grapes; fresh or dried import price amounted to $2,161 per ton, surging by 1.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 6.6% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $2,215 per ton in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,627 per ton), while the price for Argentina ($1,446 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average grapes; fresh or dried export price stood at $2,870 per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, grapes; fresh or dried export price increased by +8.4% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average export price increased by 27%. The export price peaked at $2,894 per ton in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nicaragua ($2,945 per ton), while the average price for exports to Panama ($2,448 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Panama (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Grapes; Fresh or Dried in Costa Rica

In 2022, the amount of grapes; fresh or drieds imported into Costa Rica was estimated at 7.2K tons, surging by 5% against the year before. Overall, imports, however, showed a mild reduction.

In value terms, grapes; fresh or dried imports totaled $16M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight slump.

Exports of Grapes; Fresh or Dried in Costa Rica

Grapes; fresh or dried exports from Costa Rica dropped remarkably to 163 tons in 2022, reducing by -22.6% on the previous year. In general, exports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 83%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 210 tons, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, grapes; fresh or dried exports shrank dramatically to $467K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 87% against the previous year.
