Price for Grated and Blue Cheese in Switzerland (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average grated and blue cheese export price amounted to $12,237 per ton, almost unchanged from the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 when the average export price increased by 6.5% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $12,417 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($16,217 per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($6,837 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average grated and blue cheese import price stood at $9,560 per ton in September 2023, approximately mirroring the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 10% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $10,218 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($11,582 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($4,265 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Grated and Blue Cheese in Switzerland
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of grated, powdered and blue-veined cheese, when their volume decreased by -8.1% to 61K tons. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 6.4% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 67K tons, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, grated and blue cheese exports shrank to $685M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $744M, and then contracted in the following year.
