In 2022, the average import price for hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses amounted to $5.2 per cubic meter, rising by 8.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a tangible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 57%. The import price peaked at $5.5 per cubic meter in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($14 per cubic meter), while the price for China ($2 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses amounted to $2.9 per cubic meter, surging by 230% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 827%. The export price peaked at $5 per cubic meter in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($6.7 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Mauritania ($0.6 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2015 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+33.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses were finally on the rise to reach 1.4M cubic meters for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses surged to $7.2M in 2022. In general, imports saw prominent growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, the exports of attained the peak figure at 51K cubic meters in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, exports of hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses surged to $116K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight increase. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the peak figure at $162K in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
