Price for Hydrogen, Rare Gases and Other Non-Metals in Estonia (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average import price for hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses amounted to $0.9 per cubic meter, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, import price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses decreased by -25.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 74%. The import price peaked at $1.5 per cubic meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($3.9 per cubic meter), while the price for Sweden ($0.1 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+12.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses stood at $256 per thousand cubic meters in November 2023, which is down by -42.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 59% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $447 per thousand cubic meters in August 2023; however, from September 2023 to November 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($266 per thousand cubic meters), while the average price for exports to Lithuania amounted to $237 per thousand cubic meters.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+3.7%).

Imports of Hydrogen, Rare Gases and Other Non-Metals in Estonia

For the fourth consecutive year, Estonia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses, which increased by 7.4% to 4.7M cubic meters in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 56%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses expanded sharply to $4.2M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +13.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Overall, exports continue to indicate a sharp decline. The smallest decline of -1.6% was in 2020. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at 24M cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, exports of hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses expanded sharply to $3.5M in 2022. In general, exports showed a mild descent. The exports peaked at $3.6M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
