In 2022, the average import price for iron; alloy pig iron, spiegeleisen, in pigs, blocks or other primary formses amounted to $1,798 per ton, picking up by 8.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed a tangible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 68%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3,582 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,803 per ton), while the price for France totaled $1,500 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+7.9%).

Over the period under review, imports faced a dramatic setback. The smallest decline of -20% was in 2020.

In value terms, imports of iron; alloy pig iron, spiegeleisen, in pigs, blocks or other primary formses fell to $428 in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The smallest decline of -12.8% was in 2020.
