In December 2023, the average import price for iron or non-alloy steel; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses amounted to $635 per ton, declining by -5.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2023 an increase of 40% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $892 per ton. From September 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($766 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($631 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, imports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 143% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 248K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, imports of iron or non-alloy steel; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses declined to $90M in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 137% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $114M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.
