Price for Iron or Steel Can in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
The average iron or steel can export price stood at $209 per thousand units in December 2021, with a decrease of -4.1% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2021 an increase of 9% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $219 per thousand units in October 2021; however, from November 2021 to December 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Papua New Guinea ($285 per thousand units), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($177 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average iron or steel can import price stood at $192 per thousand units in December 2021, with a decrease of -19.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2021 an increase of 32% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $239 per thousand units in November 2021, and then reduced notably in the following month.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($225 per thousand units), while the price for China ($188 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
