Price for Iron or Steel Can in Uganda (CIF) - 2022

The average iron or steel can import price stood at $0.2 per unit in 2022, increasing by 13% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, iron or steel can import price increased by +14.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 114% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $0.2 per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($0.5 per unit), while the price for Kenya ($0.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Price for Iron or Steel Can in Uganda (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average iron or steel can export price amounted to $0.1 per unit, growing by 3.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 89%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $0.1 per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Burundi ($0.2 per unit), while the average price for exports to Rwanda (less than $0.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (+9.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports of Iron or Steel Can in Uganda

For the third consecutive year, Uganda recorded decline in overseas purchases of iron or steel cans, which decreased by -20% to 34K units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a dramatic descent. The smallest decline of -14.1% was in 2020. Imports peaked at 2.7M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, iron or steel can imports reduced to $6.5K in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a precipitous contraction. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $497K in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Exports of Iron or Steel Can in Uganda

In 2022, the amount of iron or steel cans exported from Uganda dropped significantly to 8.3K units, reducing by -45.2% compared with the year before. Overall, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 948% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 15K units, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

In value terms, iron or steel can exports dropped dramatically to $476 in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 673%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $843, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
