The average import price for iron ores and concentrates, non-agglomerated stood at $124 per ton in June 2023, stabilizing at the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 16% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $148 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Canada ($128 per ton) and South Africa ($125 per ton), while the price for Norway ($94.0 per ton) and Brazil ($122 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (-1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In June 2023, the average export price for iron ores and concentrates, non-agglomerated amounted to $112 per ton, falling by -13.8% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a slight decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 13% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $142 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($113 per ton), while the average price for exports to China stood at $87.0 per ton.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (-1.3%).
Imports of Iron Ore and Concentrate, Non-Agglomerated in the Netherlands
In 2022, overseas purchases of iron ores and concentrates, non-agglomerated decreased by -7.5% to 21M tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 155% against the previous year.
