The average import price for lac; natural gums, resins, gum-resins and balsamses stood at $4,162 per ton in 2022, picking up by 2.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $9,612 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to October 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($9,751 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($2,202 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
