In 2022, the average import price for lac; natural gums, resins, gum-resins and balsamses amounted to $2,709 per ton, which is down by -10.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 34% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $3,448 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($7,431 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($942 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+13.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average export price for lac; natural gums, resins, gum-resins and balsamses stood at $6,575 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -21.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 108% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $8,373 per ton in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($10,105 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($978 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+25.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Lac; Natural Gums, Resins, Gum-Resins and Balsams in Malaysia
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of lac; natural gums, resins, gum-resins and balsamses, when their volume decreased by -23.4% to 1.6K tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 21%.
In value terms, imports of lac; natural gums, resins, gum-resins and balsamses fell notably to $4.3M in 2022. In general, imports recorded a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year.

In value terms, exports of lac; natural gums, resins, gum-resins and balsamses fell rapidly to $1.8M in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a dramatic curtailment. The smallest decline of -4.7% was in 2021.
