Price for Lamb and Sheep Meat in Pakistan (FOB) - 2023
The average lamb and sheep meat export price stood at $7,520 per ton in February 2023, leveling off at the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 an increase of 11% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $8,657 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to February 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In February 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Kuwait ($7,780 per ton) and Qatar ($7,752 per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($7,413 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($7,488 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (-0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Exports of Lamb and Sheep Meat in Pakistan
In 2022, shipments abroad of lamb and sheep meat decreased by -3.3% to 3.5K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 22%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 5.9K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, lamb and sheep meat exports rose slightly to $29M in 2022. In general, exports showed a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $38M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
