The average import price for lighters; pocket, cigarette, gas fuelled, non-refillables stood at $0.1 per unit in 2022, falling by -8.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 83% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $0.4 per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($0.2 per unit), while the price for China ($0.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, purchases abroad of lighters; pocket, cigarette, gas fuelled, non-refillables increased by 1.9% to 76M units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced downturn. Imports peaked at 84M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, imports of lighters; pocket, cigarette, gas fuelled, non-refillables dropped to $8.3M in 2022. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $8.9M, and then declined in the following year.
