Price for Liquefied Ethylene, Propylene, Butylene and Butadiene in Hungary (CIF) - 2023

In October 2023, the average import price for liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes amounted to $592 per ton, picking up by 9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 21% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $797 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Slovakia.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Slovakia amounted to -2.4% per month.

The average export price for liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes stood at $942 per ton in 2022, surging by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a slight decrease. The export price peaked at $1,051 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($4,404 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($771 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+28.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 63K tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, imports of liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes surged to $53M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 176% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
