Price for Liquefied Petroleum Gases Other than Propane, Butanes, Ethylene, Propylene, Butylene or Butadiene in Uganda (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average import price for liquefied petroleum gases other than propane, butanes, ethylene, propylene, butylene or butadienes amounted to $1,120 per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 73% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1,130 per ton in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($4,906 per ton), while the price for Zambia ($400 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average export price for liquefied petroleum gases other than propane, butanes, ethylene, propylene, butylene or butadienes amounted to $1,965 per ton, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 41%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $2,977 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($2,842 per ton), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo stood at $1,835 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (-1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, the amount of liquefied petroleum gases other than propane, butanes, ethylene, propylene, butylene or butadienes imported into Uganda totaled 372 tons, stabilizing at 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 1% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 373 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imports of liquefied petroleum gases other than propane, butanes, ethylene, propylene, butylene or butadienes totaled $417K in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 4.9%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $422K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
