The average export price for mammals; live, rabbits and hareses stood at $2.7 per unit in 2022, increasing by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 73%. The export price peaked at $8.7 per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($2.7 per unit), while the average price for exports to Maldives amounted to $2.7 per unit.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Maldives (-6.0%).

Exports of Mammals; Live, Rabbits and Hares in Sri Lanka

For the third year in a row, Sri Lanka recorded decline in shipments abroad of mammals; live, rabbits and hareses, which decreased by -68.5% to 52 units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports faced a precipitous curtailment. The smallest decline of -13.2% was in 2020. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 220 units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mammals; live, rabbits and hares exports contracted notably to $138 in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a dramatic slump. The smallest decline of -39.5% was in 2020. The exports peaked at $1K in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
