Price for Meat of Bovine Animals; Fresh or Chilled in Pakistan (FOB) - 2023

In July 2023, the average export price for meat of bovine animals; fresh or chilled amounted to $4,039 per ton, stabilizing at the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 when the average export price increased by 45% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $6,317 per ton. From September 2022 to July 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Kuwait ($5,207 per ton) and Qatar ($4,181 per ton), while the average price for exports to Oman ($3,589 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($3,763 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kuwait (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average import price for meat of bovine animals; fresh or chilled stood at $2,548 per ton in 2022, declining by -5.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $3,952 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($2,981 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates stood at $2,433 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+7.6%).

Exports of Meat of Bovine Animals; Fresh or Chilled in Pakistan

For the fourth consecutive year, Pakistan recorded growth in overseas shipments of meat of bovine animals; fresh or chilled, which increased by 10% to 71K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 15%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, exports of meat of bovine animals; fresh or chilled skyrocketed to $322M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +53.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 21%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports of Meat of Bovine Animals; Fresh or Chilled in Pakistan

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of meat of bovine animals; fresh or chilled, when their volume decreased by -93% to 13 tons. Overall, imports saw a dramatic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 178%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 182 tons, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In value terms, imports of meat of bovine animals; fresh or chilled contracted notably to $33K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports faced a dramatic decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 180% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $494K, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
