The average export price for melons (including watermelons) and papaws (papayas); freshes stood at $639 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 1.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,375 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($2,464 per ton), while the average price for exports to Togo ($16 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average import price for melons (including watermelons) and papaws (papayas); freshes amounted to $1,266 per ton, picking up by 3.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 114%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,328 per ton in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
