The average import price for melons (including watermelons) and papaws (papayas); freshes stood at $604 per ton in September 2023, growing by 7.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 59% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1,607 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,173 per ton), while the price for Greece ($351 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for melons (including watermelons) and papaws (papayas); freshes stood at $2,082 per ton in October 2023, increasing by 193% against the previous month. In general, the export price enjoyed resilient growth. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($2,665 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK stood at $1,178 per ton.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Estonia (+20.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
