The average import price for melons (including watermelons) and papaws (papayas); freshes stood at $843 per ton in September 2022, rising by 4.4% against the previous month. Over the last eight months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2022 when the average import price increased by 17% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $902 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($2,310 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($537 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, export price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for melons (including watermelons) and papaws (papayas); freshes increased by +41.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 29%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,314 per ton, and then fell in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($2,567 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($1,728 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
