In October 2023, the average export price for melons (including watermelons) and papaws (papayas); freshes amounted to $223 per ton, shrinking by -32.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 536% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,000 per ton. From May 2023 to October 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($424 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kyrgyzstan ($142 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tajikistan (+14.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average import price for melons (including watermelons) and papaws (papayas); freshes amounted to $378 per ton, growing by 20% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $476 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($2,994 per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($250 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
