The average import price for metals; iridium, osmium, ruthenium, unwrought or in powder forms stood at $31.2M per ton in January 2024, reducing by -6.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2023 when the average import price increased by 169% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $38,187 per kg; afterwards, it flattened through to January 2024.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Germany ($188M per ton), while the price for France ($13.3M per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+24.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for metals; iridium, osmium, ruthenium, unwrought or in powder forms amounted to $8,923,731 per ton, with a decrease of -16.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed modest growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 95%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $10,740 per kg, and then fell sharply in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($21,552,382 per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($4,841,621 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+35.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Metals; Iridium, Osmium, Ruthenium, Unwrought or in Powder Form in Switzerland
For the fourth year in a row, Switzerland recorded growth in purchases abroad of metals; iridium, osmium, ruthenium, unwrought or in powder forms, which increased by 9.8% to 1.3 tons in 2022. In general, imports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 65%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, imports of metals; iridium, osmium, ruthenium, unwrought or in powder forms rose rapidly to $30M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 179% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

As a result, the exports reached the peak of 1.9 tons, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, exports of metals; iridium, osmium, ruthenium, unwrought or in powder forms contracted rapidly to $15M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 522% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $20M, and then plummeted in the following year.
