Price for Metals; Platinum, Unwrought or in Powder Form in India (CIF) - 2023
In November 2023, the average import price for metals; platinum, unwrought or in powder forms amounted to $30.1M per ton, standing approximately at the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 19% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $36,049 per kg; afterwards, it flattened through to November 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the countries with the highest prices were the UK ($31.7M per ton) and Italy ($31.6M per ton), while the price for the United States ($28.2M per ton) and South Africa ($29.2M per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average export price for metals; platinum, unwrought or in powder forms stood at $20,444,318 per ton in 2022, waning by -37.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 12,831% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $35,341,438 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($35,499,000 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($20,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+12.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Metals; Platinum, Unwrought or in Powder Form in India
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of metals; platinum, unwrought or in powder forms, when their volume decreased by -38.4% to 1.9 tons. In general, imports recorded a mild descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 52% against the previous year.
In value terms, imports of metals; platinum, unwrought or in powder forms reduced sharply to $60M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 65%.
