The average export price for mica, including splittings; mica wastes stood at $495 per ton in July 2023, shrinking by -10.2% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 14% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $551 per ton in June 2023, and then contracted in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($740 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kuwait ($108 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average import price for mica, including splittings; mica wastes amounted to $1,201 per ton, shrinking by -13.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a moderate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $1,443 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($2,844 per ton), while the price for Madagascar ($437 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Exports of Mica, Including Splittings; Mica Waste in India
In 2022, overseas shipments of mica, including splittings; mica wastes decreased by -24.2% to 119K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports recorded a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 21%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 158K tons, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
In value terms, mica, including splittings; mica waste exports reduced rapidly to $55M in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 25%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $71M, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated temperate growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +72.9% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
